148th Fighter Wing
1st Lt Joe Hennessy
Mission Support Flight
The Wing will deploy in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The latest deployment is the Wing's fourth deployment of the "aviation package" to Iraq since 2005. In addition, individuals continue to support Operation Enduring Freedom and Air Expeditionary Forces operations around the world.
The 148th received numerous awards during the past six months. In June, Occupational Safety & Heath Administration (OSHA) presented the Wing the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star rating. The 148th FW is the first unit in the Air Force to earn the VPP Star rating, which demonstrates a measurable process to show excellence in occupational safety and health. In July, Lt Gen. Craig McKinley, Director Air National Guard, presented the Wing with the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for demonstrating exceptional Meritorious service. Finally, the 148th was presented the NGAUS Distinguished Flying Unit Plaque and the William W. Spruance Safety Award at the 130th NGAUS General Conference.
The 2009 National and State membership drive is now underway. Capt. Brian Winter, 148th Maintenance Group Executive Officer and I are committed to representing your interests at the State and National levels. Over the next three months we will be seeking your renewed membership and input for Association legislative efforts. Please email 148FWREP@ngamn.org to up channel issues that are important to you.
Mark your calendars - the NGAMN State Conference is scheduled for 24-26 April 2009 at the Alltel Center in Mankato, MN. Visit the Association website for additional details. www.ngamn.org Duluth is scheduled to host the 2012 State Conference.
